We have been getting reports that oama came in, but came in late, and there had been a lot of people fishing from shore since it was one of the few allowed activities. With standing on the beach currently prohibited, accessible fishing spots have been reduced.
It’s peak fishing season now and we’d like to know how’re you’re doing. Thanks for participating.

I do agree that it’s peak season now, however peak now is still worse than last years bite at peak. A lot of friends agree with me too. Last year at around this time we were catching quite a bit more Papio. And yes, the reducing of fishing at beaches does make it a little annoying that spots are reduced to a few… The spots I am reduced to I have to stand in the water now, and at higher tides it’s dangerous, so sort of reduced to a few spots at a few tides, with no significant swell. On a side note, the action for this year has been picking up in the past three weeks for most people I follow on IG, with bigger and more catches. Hopefully it still is getting better and stays at peak at least until late september/mid october.

Thanks for the feedback Matt. Keep pounding cuz we don’t know how long the season will last. Might be a loooong winter.

About same as last year, when you correct for the lockdowns. During the park closures, I can’t really fish the spots I like, at least bit easily. I’m forced to fish the few easy access spots around, which means it’s a circus, which means no more fish…. So I’m taking a bit of break now. I did have a pretty good July though.
Thanks for the feedback Jason. Your style of fishing: wading and fly casting for oio, is less dependent on bait fish but very dependent on parking and commotion in the water. Maybe the fish will get a break too and be more susceptible when you return!
It’s been slightly down, but some of it is due to the lockdowns, so I’m not able to fish all the spots. July was good for halalu…August has been pretty good so far.
Thanks for the feedback Jeremy. Sounds like, if work hard enough you can still catch fish! Wake up earlier, walk further, use better baits etc… 🙂
