Poll Results So Far: How’s the 2020 shoreline season going for you so far?

September 1, 2020 By Scott 3 Comments

2 weeks into running the poll, with 37 people participating, about 1/3 said the season is about the same as previous seasons for them. Almost 2/3 said it’s been slower than previous years and just 5% said it’s actually been better than previous years.

Do you agree with these prelim poll results? If you haven’t voted, please do. We’ll run the poll through the month of September, ending at the traditional ending of the summer season.

When we were opened up, i would say it’s “same as previous years.” But whenever the park and beach closures are implemented it seems to concentrate fishermen (and beach goers in general) into the few easily accessible and wade-able locations nearby. At least this is the case on the side of the island I like to fish. I see stuff on the flats I wouldn’t see during normal times lol

Always good to get your wade-in-the water perspective Jason. Yeah the oio guys seem to be doing ok. Papio fishing is much slower at the highly trafficked spots and I’m hearing all kinds of theories (less bait, more activity in the water, more illegal poaching due to less enforcement, etc).

I’m hearing that fishing in Florida and California, and even Japan has been really off too. I’ll post about the suspected causes soon.

Sounds about right. There seems to be a lot of new fishermen and divers out there too. This brings some of its own issues, mainly lack of flats etiquette, ie coming way to close. I’ve heard this from some of my other friends as well.

Curious to read your post about the impacts in other locales. I recall reading about a spike in fishing tackle sales a while back, I think in Minnesota.
