Traditionally, oama seasons starts in August, and the peak season starts at the end of August. With it being a warm El Nino year, we’re expecting a good oama season although there haven’t been large, catchable schools yet at the normal places.

huge oama school at Diamond Head, End of *****. Dark water is oama school. When entering water, the fish move away and you can see sandy bottom.
Thanks for the south shore oama report Russ! I omitted the exact location even though it’s probably not a place that throw net poachers would attempt.
I’ve never seen oama en masse there before, that’s a good sign.

Hi there! I’m looking to get back into fishing after having bilateral rotator cuff surgery and a long recovery — it basically took me out for five or six years.

It’s a good year to come back for oama. They are all over and should be for a few months.
