Oama basics – what you need to know to catch the best baitfish in Hawaii

Traditionally, oama seasons starts in August, and the peak season starts at the end of August. With it being a warm El Nino year, we’re expecting a good oama season although there haven’t been large, catchable schools yet at the normal places.

    huge oama school at Diamond Head, End of *****. Dark water is oama school. When entering water, the fish move away and you can see sandy bottom.

      Thanks for the south shore oama report Russ! I omitted the exact location even though it’s probably not a place that throw net poachers would attempt.

      I’ve never seen oama en masse there before, that’s a good sign.
